Casa Castillo is a very private home visited daily by local wildlife. Photographers will not be disappointed: Capuchin, Howlers and Squirrel monkeys, sloths, macaws, toucans, hummingbirds, and colorful butterflies are part of life at this villa.

Starting in August and lasting through December, Manuel Antonio is on a migration path for humpback whales. Sometimes one can see the whales from the upper terrace of Casa Castillo.

The villa was updated with modern amenities in the Fall of 2021 to provide enhanced privacy and comfort for guests. The main architectural details and the character of the house were preserved and updated with works of local artists and craftsmen to showcase the true beauty of Costa Rica and talents of the people, allowing the guests fully experience the “Pura Vida” lifestyle.

Guests have access to the entire property and private pool. The house is accessed by a private, steep 40-yard-road (4x4 vehicles are required). The road can be also accessed by a, 105 steps, railed stairway. The parking area, equipped with sensor lights, accommodates up to 3 vehicles.

GETTING TO CASA  CASTILLO

Local flights option cr

By Air:  We recommend flying into the Juan Santamaría International Airport in San José (SJO).  If you want to take a domestic flight to QPX the Quepos Airport (15-minute flight), please check for local connections at SJO.  Consider there is a luggage allowance in domestic flights. There are options to book a charter flight, ask your concierge for a quote. From the Quepos Airport we can help you organize a private shuttle to your villa.

Private Ground Transportation: If arriving mid-afternoon to SJO and taking a private taxi (can be arranged by the concierge) you should be in the house late-afternoon.  The drive takes about 2.5 – 3 hrs. The driver will meet you at the airport's exit upon your arrival. If you would like, our driver will stop at fruit and vegetable stands and/or grocery store on the way. Don’t miss El Jardin souvenir shop located about an hour from the San Jose airport in Orotina (http://eljardin.co.cr/). It is right on the road and you will find impeccable bathrooms, good food, great selection of souvenirs, clothes and hats, and freshly made tropical fruit smoothies, coffee and ice cream. We highly recommend this stop on the way to and from to Manuel Antonio.

If arriving on late flights we recommend to stay either in one of the hotels near the airport or at a lovely Finca Rosa Blanca Coffee Farm and Inn (https://fincarosablanca.com/en ). Transportation from your hotel/the Inn can be arranged by our concierge or a rental car can be brought up to the Inn. Our friends at Finca Rosa Blanca can make all necessary arrangements.

By Rental Car: When renting a car, please make sure it is a 4x4 vehicle. The driveway at Casa Castillo is steep and requires a 4x4 car. Main roads in Costa Rica are in great condition and navigation systems (in your phone or car) function well. Rental companies will provide you a map if requested. There is a toll part of the road between San Jose and Quepos (less than 1,000 colons/ $1.56 USD). We recommend Adobe Rental Car (https://www.adobecar.com/en/ ), a Costa Rican rental car company, that has locations in most of the tourist destinations in Costa Rica.  There is an Adobe Rental Car office in Quepos within ten minutes’ drive from Casa Castillo.
